Knit 90’s Halloween Boo bucket tumbler sweater

Just about every millennial had the same childhood. We all stayed out until the street lights came on in the summer, riding our bikes, carefree, parents didn’t even know where we were. Then when we’d head back to school (this is getting very midwest US now) it’d be chilly in the morning and warm in the afternoon and the crisp air just meant that Halloween was quickly approaching. I loved this time of year. I loved going back to school, seeing my friends, getting a good routine in. I also just love learning, always have. Anyways, I promise I have a point, one of the true shared millennial experiences was that McDonalds was definitely giving out peak happy meal toys. The coveted Boo Buckets were a part of that.

The witch was always my favorite!

Since it seems everyone is getting really nostalgic for simpler times, like the 90’s, myself included, I felt inspired to knit some tumbler cozies that represent those 90’s boo buckets. I believe I referenced the 1992 version?

The tumbler sweaters are great because they fit the 40 oz tumbler with a handle. You basically get to upgrade your favorite tumbler with a seasonal AND CUTE accessory, instead of buying another tumbler. Also, def no judgement if you want to do both. You do you – boo. (haha couldn’t resist with a Halloween pattern)

Sorry my ADHD is on high right now and I don’t want people to think I use AI so I’m going to leave this blog post this wild. This pattern is knit in the round for a few rounds, then back and forth a lot to create the hole for the handle and then it gets closed up at the top. This is a newly revamped version of the tumbler sweaters I’ve made and released in the past, but if you purchased and already made the clouds tumbler you’ll be familiar with the pattern set up. (Also thank you for your purchase!) All additional knitting details like gauge, materials etc is found on the listing page.

Ghost inspired tumbler sweater

You know how as a kid you grow up with stuff that you think everyone has and then later you learn that isn’t the case? My parents kept all of our Halloween decorations and old costumes in giant trunks. We had two of them. I loved when my dad would get “the trunks down” I can still hear the clicking and rattling of the old latch that didn’t lock and the waft of musk that would permeate the area once you opened a trunk. The memory feels like it belongs in some great 90s fall/Halloween adventure movie. I asked my dad a few years ago why we used trunks and he just shrugged and said that’s how his parents did it. His parents. Who were born in the late 30s and he was born in the late 50s. So we just kept that tradition alive throughout the 90s.

Sadly I don’t have Halloween trunks, I store everything in plastic totes. I’ve also misplaced my boo buckets from the 90s. They are here somewhere! So for now, I’ll let my newly knit collection of Boo bucket inspired tumbler sweaters scratch the 90s itch.
